Federer Stunned in Dubai

Roger Federer known by some as the greatest of all time, even more after his recent victory at the Australian Open just got a surprise shock in Dubai, when he lost to Evegeny Donskoy, 3-6, 7-6(7), 7-6(5) in the second round. Federer started well in the second set tiebreaker and held three points but then blew it away.

Federer said that he did not take advantage of the chances given to him and couldn’t quite understand how it got away from his reach, his 8th Dubai title couldn’t be. The mind boggling thing is that Donskoy ranks at number 116, and is the first person to beat Roger ranked outside the top 100 since 2000. Roger also said that he wasn’t aware of Donskoy’s game at all, about his strengths and what his playing style was and so this got him tense, which prevented him from playing freely but at this stage I think Roger could’ve done better.

On the other hand, Donskoy was over the moon, as he surprised everyone, and winning against the maestro is no less an achievement. Roger was playing his first competitive match since his win at Melbourne, now he will get a few weeks off before the Indian Wells tournament. Roger really didn’t play well, however the number one seed Andy Murray rolled over Garcia in his match and now looks as the favorite to win the Dubai Open, as he faces Phillip Kohlschreiber. Murray said that he is feeling much better now and is in good form since the beginning of the year. He hit a good forehand and served better as well.

Furthermore, Robin Haase defeated Tomas Bedych which can also be claimed as another upset in the tournament, who will now face Stan the Man, Wawrinka, who is also playing quite well this season. Other than this, the Frenchman Gael Monfils will play Verdasco. The Dubai Open marks the start of a new season and which would end at the French Open, my pick for that would be either Novak or Nadal both in hot form, but all depends on the from players carry in tournaments going towards France including Indian Wells and then the Miami Open. After playing at hard courts, now it’s time to play on clay, if you want to construct a new tennis court and want to do tennis court maintenance then log onto Talbot Tennis today.
