After the dream match at the Australian Open Final between Roger and Rafa, things have now picked up pace. The road to the French Open has begun with players playing in Dubai at the Dubai Open or in Acapulco, Mexico. The Swiss ace and 18 grand slam winner Roger Federer got shocked in Dubai when he got defeated by number 116 seed, Evgeny Donskoy, clearing the tournament up for Andy Murray. Andy now is considered as the hot favorite however he himself barely won his match against Phillip Kohlschreiber 6-7 (4), 7-6(18), 6-1 saving a seven match point, something which he has never done in the past.

Murray said that he was glad to win that match as it was a special one because of how it went, agreeing to the fact he may never play a tie break like that again. Phillip played a great match, he hit great points in the second set tie break; he was hitting the ball with intensity and as a fan of the sport it was a pleasure to watch. Murray somehow fended off one match point with an unbelievable drop shot.  Phillip talked to the media and said that he was quite sad as this was undoubtedly his best match, but congratulated Andy on winning a spectacular match and was satisfied that he was part of it.

Murray will now face Lucas Pouille of France who defeated Donskoy, who got rid of Roger early on.  Moreover, Verdasco will face off against Haase in the other semi final in Dubai. On the other side of the world, in Mexico Djokovic defeated Del Potro 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, in a thrilling match which lived up to its hype. The first set was tight but Djokovic took control in the second set winning it by 5-2, then Del Potro came back in the third set but it wasn’t enough to slow the Serbian joker down who broke right back and won the last 3 games.

Djokovic said that he tried to get back as much as returns as possible, it was a close match plus the fact the stadium was full at 1 am in the night tells how great a match they had. Del Potro said that the match was a tough battle between the two of them and this time Djokovic had the upper hand and deserved to win, admitting that he could have won it but Djokovic stepped up and didn’t make any mistake in the important moments of the match.

However he is positive for the future, Novak now will face Australian Kyrgios. The king of clay Nadal looked strong in his matches and has played a solid game, he will now meet Nishioka.
